the place she now existed in as anything other than heavenly. She was nowhere, yet somewhere, in another realm from the one she'd known only a short time ago. Slowly she turned to meet the impossibly blue gaze of the man who had been her guide.
Tall, shoulder-length red hairand three pairs of red wings the color of flames.
The peace that had invaded her within the tunnel continued to calm Josieso much so that she barely blinked at the wings. Why he had wings wasn't important. How he could help her was. Since he'd been sent to greet her at the doorway, he must carry a degree of importance in this realm. He could tell her the things she needed to knownamely, how she could find her child.
"Who," she asked, "are you?"
He bestowed upon her an expression of tolerance for a lost lamb. "I am the Archangel Raphael."
Josie was silent. She hadn't been expecting that. Maybe St. Peter or some other saint, even a lesser angel. But the Archangel Raphael? If she remembered her theology at all, he had something to do with . . .
"Guardian angels," she blurted out before she could stop herself.
Raphael smiled. "Very good. I am chief of the guardian angels in this realm, and you are Josie."
"Yes. You told me I could see my baby. When?"
"Your baby is not here."
Josie gulped against the fear his statement caused. She had distinctly heard her husband cry that he'd lost both his wife and his baby. If she was here, then where would her child be? Surely God couldn't be so cruel as to separate them now?
